Akademi Fantasia was fantasy land compared to the real world of entertainment, singer Nubhan tells NUR AQIDAH AZIZI

LIFE has been good for Seremban-born singer Ahmad Nubhan Ahamad. Almost a year after the departure of his personal assistant, Vernon Kedit Jolly, Nubhan says he’s coping well.

“I must admit, it was tough for me initially. I mean, I am still green in this industry and Vernon was the first person who helped me. I owe him a lot,” he says. Nubhan was the third winner of Akademi Fantasia (AF) season six.

Vernon, who also managed Ning Baizura, Erra Fazira and Nikki Palikat, left Artistes United Records and Artistes United Management last July.

Pojie has been selected by the management to handle Nubhan’s career.

“I have no problems with Pojie handling my career. It would not be fair to compare him with Vernon, Pojie has his own style.” says Nubhan.

Nubhan says he’s now concentrating on completing his full debut album this year. “This album has been delayed for far too long. A lot of things happened that had contributed to it. However, I am relieved now to know that the album will be out very soon,” says the excited Nubhan.

The yet-to-be-titled album will carry eight songs, including a Mandarin song Ai Mei Cuo.

“That song is composed by Tam of Spider and the lyrics are by a Chinese lyricist. I insisted on including a Mandarin song in my album since I can also speak in Mandarin. This is like a bonus to all my fans who have been patiently waiting for my album,” he says.

Other songs are Beri Rasa, Aku Atau Dia, Matahati, Seadanya Aku, Ada Untukmu, Juwita and Di Redup Matamu.

“Some of the songs were released as singles earlier and seen positive response from listeners. I hope this album will attract more fans,” he says.

If you’re wondering why there are only eight songs in the album instead of 10, Nubhan feels that the current situation in the music industry isn’t very favourable.

“Judging from the current slow sales in albums, I think eight songs is good enough. At least, I got the opportunity to release a full album. I am still lucky,” he says.

Nubhan adds that his experience so far has exposed him to the realities of the industry.

“Life in AF is not the same as in the real world. I realise that the entertainment scene is not all glitter and glam. There are ups and downs and survival depends on how strong you are,” he says.

“If I am not determined enough, I think I wouldn’t be here still. Yes, at times I feel like giving up, but luckily my family members, friends and fans are always there to lend their support,” he says. “I have learnt that to be a good entertainer, I must also know how to diversify my skills. I must learn as much as possible, and grab the opportunities that cross my way.” Nubhan has also done some acting. “I have acted in TV dramas. Initially, it was only for fun. But after a while, I fell in love with it.” he says.

He also stars in a Lagenda Budak Setan the movie, directed by Sharad Sharan and co-produced by Tayangan Unggul Sdn Bhd and Tarantella Pictures. The film is showing in cinemas now.

“While my first love is still singing, I am also in love with acting at the moment. I hope more acting opportunities will come my way,” he adds.
